PH BALANCE AND REGULATION:
I remember watching the movie Dick Tracy. I was about 6 years old and it was the hot movie on the market. One of the distinctly recall watching one of the characters getting thrown into a large pool of acid. The character screamed as the acid literally boiled the skin right off of his body. It seemed like the worst human experience you could possibly have. From then on, my brothers and I would always play games where we were trying to avoid imaginary acid pits or torturing the prisoners of war in our GI Joe games by dipping them in an imaginary pool of acid. The thought of the word just makes me squirm…definitely not something I ever want to experience.
However, most everybody in our society today is creating an acidic pool within their bodies. The foods you eat and the liquids you drink have a dramatic affect on the pH regulation of your body. Recent research has shown that human cells are meant to flourish in a relatively alkaline internal environment. An acidic temperament promotes the formation of inflammation that leads to sickness and disease in our bodies. When our inner terrain becomes acidic we are literally burning ourself to death from the inside-out!
A good example of this is cholesterol as we explained in our nutritional myths. Our body naturally increases its cholesterol levels in response to tissue inflammation. This mechanism allows the damaged cell membrane layers to rebuild their walls and stay strong. It is the continual onslaught of inflammation that ends up damaging the traveling cholesterol molecules and altering their structure. Once damaged, the cholesterol becomes a sticky plaque that will easily lodge into the crevice of a blood vessel and with enough support from other inflammatory damaged molecules dramatically affect the rate and rhythm of blood flow.
The typical mainstream diet and lifestyle is full of acidic food and activity. All processed food, meat products, dairy, and grains are acidic in nature. Alkalizing foods on the other hand, take on a green color. By realigning with the slightly basic internal environment we were created to have (7.365 – ideal blood pH) along with maximal nerve system supply throughout our body we are able to restore health and vitality to our 50 trillion cells. Some of the best alkalizing foods include avocados, tomatoes, various grasses (wheat grass, barley grass, oat grass, alfalfa grass, etc), sprouts, cabbage, celery, and spinach among others.
Obviously, most Americans, even those who believe they are eating “healthy,” do not consume these foods often enough throughout the day. Because of this, I do recommend a green mix with condensed amounts of the various grasses and vegetables in a powder form for regular use. A green mix isn’t necessary if you have the time to cook and or juice a couple pounds of vegetables on a daily basis. This isn’t feasible for many of us living in the fast paced American lifestyle. A green mix is the quickest and easiest way to assure yourself that you are eating enough life-giving vegetables on a regular basis.
Dr. Robert Young, in his books pH Miracle and Sick & Tired, dicusses how high-altitude mountainous cultures such as the Hunzas in Pakistan and the Vilcabambians of Southern Equador have been some of the healthiest, longest lived people in the world Many have lived over 120 years, even up to 150 long, strong, and vibrant years. One of the unique things about these people has to do with their water supply. Most of their water comes into the villages from snow melt where it picked up highly alkaline minerals in the natural colloidal form as it passed through the mountains on its way down to the villages. Therefore, the water these vibrant cultures were consuming contained an alkaline pH. Based on this notion, alkalized water is one of the best ways of regaining your pH balance.
